American actor Pat Finn, who featured in beloved TV shows including Friends, "Seinfeld" and The Middle, has passed away aged 60.

The comedy and improvisation performer passed away at his residence in Los Angeles, California recently having undergone cancer treatment from 2022 onward, as reported by reports.

"He never met a stranger - just potential friends he hadn't encountered," his loved ones stated in a announcement.

They noted that he had "experienced life to the fullest - with joy and exuberance".

A Prolific Television Career

His debut TV appearance was on a show starring George Wendt in 1995, where he appeared as the titular character's brother.

He also had a regular part on "Murphy Brown" from 1995 to 1997.

He starred as a party host named Joe Mayo in Seinfeld in 1998, depicting a social organizer who would assign unpleasant chores to his guests.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he appeared as a guest star on several well-known programs, such as:

  • King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

His most famous role for his portrayal of Bill Norwood in The Middle, featuring across eight seasons of the show over nearly a decade.

His work in movies encompass It's Complicated and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups.

Beyond the Screen

Outside of his acting parts, Finn was a skilled improviser and worked as a teacher at the University of Colorado, where he was a professor.

He was involved with a six-member improv team called "Beer Shark Mice".

"Pat guided, supported, and advised numerous pupils throughout the years and you'd be hard-pressed to find someone anywhere who has anything negative to say about him," his family wrote.

Paying homage, peer actor Richard Kind said there was "no kinder, gentler, funnier, down to earth person you could encounter".

"Always positive, making those around him better and funnier. An excellent dad and person," he posted online.

Finn is survived by his wife Donna, his children, and his mother, father, and brothers/sisters.
