Iran Reports Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the United States has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said missile fragments fell on a populated district in the capital, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
