President Trump Calls Families of Injured Guard Members to White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Event
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
White House Invitation
The president explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Support
Attendees assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that educators hoped for. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to help others.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident caused the government to halt asylum processing and cease providing visas to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” the governor addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
