The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
